It's hard to say if Gelatin is seen as having a relationship to Pop. Our work is not "post-Pop-Punk-Rock-Fluxus," because it is not "post." Our work is new. If anything, our work is more "rock" than "pop." Our work deals with the body a lot, and it is better to "rock" the body than "pop" the body. But you can pop our cherries any time, darling! There's a common language in the body that everyone understands--we play with that. The body doesn't care if it gets rocked or popped. In the end, the body is a digestion device.

my ace boyfriend janos di croce made this 3d model based on one of my drawings. i'm so amazed at the result; he made my creepy flie-pixie beautiful.



he's got an online 3d portfolio, although it's more serious for work stuff and not full of faery things. i hope it will be in time though, as i'd love to see more of my drawings come to life!

understanding joshua

in an interview with egg about his work understanding joshua, charlie white says that "there's been a lot of understanding in terms of how women may feel inadequate", but "not a lot of support or assistance in understanding how men feel inadequate".

i think this is important. gender equality also benifits men.

understanding joshua is a study of just this; male self image, vulnerablility, and low self-esteem. the puppet is "complete fragility manifest in a body". yet joshua is just a normal guy; we see him as this pathetic figure in the pictures as that is how he sees himself.

an old pencil drawing of mine. sarah used to draw some amazing detailed abstract pattern drawings, like the bit of pattern behind her head that i copied from one of her drawings. i like the idea of integrating bits of a person's art in a portrait of them as it sort of says something about their mind.

kay nielsen fairytale illustrations

kay nielsen, (1886-1957) was a danish fairytale illustrator in the so called "golden age of illustration".
here's a couple of my favourite illustrations from east of the sun west of the moon, 1914.

the trippy world of chiho aoshima

chiho aoshima is a japanese pop artist who is part of takashi murakami's kaikai kiki art collective and the superflat movement. i've loved her cute and trippy digital drawings ever since i saw a massive mural of city glow at the baltic in newcastle some years ago.

gustaf tenngren fairytale illustrations

gustaf tennengren was a swedish illustrator very much influenced by john bauer; the acest fairy tale illustrater theres ever been, and arthur rackham.

these pictures here are from a 1923 edition of grimm's fairy tales. he later joined disney and gave up this style. what a pity.

The Azirian Shrine of Intimacy

apparently these are all consenting adult non-humans. i like how the drawings depicts sex in a very positive, playful and intimate manner - in stark contrast to the amount of imagery of sex that exist with a violent, raw and destructive undertone.

it's also very naive and i love it. i think naivety has some sort of honesty about it.

this actually looks an awful lot like me and my boyfriend! i'm amazed! although we're obviously both much cuter.

stuckism

A couple of comical highlights from a Stuckist art show I went to ages ago in Liverpool. I don't remember the name of the artists.

Stuckists are contemporary figurative painters who doesn't agree with conceptual art, "mainly because of its lack of concepts".
