knitted human hair sculptures by chrystl rijkeboer

"Where people are, there are emotions. Where emotions are, I find my subjects. My working material is litteral direct taken from the human. Just as the emotions. Material and subject are the base for my work.
The reason I work with human hair, is that hair has symbolic significance: beauty, strength, health, attraction, etc. The moment it is separated from the human all these factors turn around, hair is considered dirty, unsavory and dead.
Human hair is a hyper-individual material, which I felt or spin into yarn.
The objects and installation I create are divided between soft, touchable and an anxious distance. The tension that arises is highly dominated by the impact of the material. The work is figurative and recognizable but shape and proportions are not necessarily correct or ‘beautiful’, what matter is the sensation they evoke. You can always view my work in two ways: kind, pleasant and innocent, or frightening, condemning and guilty." - chrystl rijkeboer

..hmm i wonder if my boyfriend would be happy if i cut my hair off and used it to knit him a funky hat?

google image search

i'm a google image search addict.. i just can't stop. i look at all sorts of stuff. i try to come up with clever search terms to get the best photos. like this one:

this posing man is the result of a google image search session i did ages ago. i re-discovered it on my well stocked hard drive today.

the name of the file is "fucked up", so i guess that was what i was searching for. it's a bit trite, i must have ran out of clever things to search for..

i don't think the guy in the picture is that fucked up to be honest, but it's a great picture nevertheless.

is he trying to be funny, or is he trying to be sexy? or both?? what do you think?

bathtub painting

i can't find any more work by this artist, maybe i got the name of the artist wrong; brian berassi.

i have no idea how many paintings i've seen of people in bathtubs. and i always tend to like them - i even planned to make one myself, but after seeing countless depictions of it, i sort of didn't feel the need any longer.

i like this bathtub-painting because it's all dark and a bit unsettling. the yellow-green shades of the water, and the blue tones of the body gives me an eerie, sick impression.

dracula clothing

my friends truls and ida owns this ace internet shop called dracula clothing. it started out more as a devotion to goth fashion and subculture than a quest for money. and i'm really impressed with what they've achieved. the people making the clothes are paid a fair price, the quality of the work is outstanding - and yet they sell the clothes for such an affordable price - and they're even tailor made for perfect fit!? they can do this as everything is made to order, so there is no unsold lacy goodness going to waste. everyone wins :)

the last time i visited ida and truls, they were just finished with a photo shoot for some of the new corsets, and a couple of the models were still around- wearing the gear. they looked absolutely fabulous.

my favourite corset that night was this one.. it looked so great on, and rannveig, the girl wearing it, said it was really comfy as well. that sort of sold me. see, the older i get the more i like to slouch and be fluffy cozy comfy. but apparently corsets are really comfortable to wear + they give you a good posture. it wouldn't hurt to have a better posture.. maybe i could wear a corset while i'm using my laptop to avoid the slouch. i'll have to try it. maybe this will be my first:

ahh industrial cyber coolness! i also like the really fairy-tale old fashioned extravagant corsets. i'm a sucker for extravaganza.. like these corsets:

lots of corset talk in one go - it's because most of their new stuff is corsets, and they've started specializing in it. they do have other clothes as well that i love, like this lolita skirt:

and i already picture myself wearing this cool top with lace detail at the bottom and lacing on the back, like a corset top:

the ultimate challenge for me now, is that truls and ida has asked me to design some new things for their shop. i've been asked this ages ago, and i've done a bit of sketches but still haven't given them any.

i'm thinking leopard print, spikey fake fur, psychedelic fractal print, lace, velvet (rød+lilla fløyel=sant), tulle.. and lots of fancy old fashioned sleeves and silly puffy skirts..

it would be totally amazing to see a design of mine in their shop, but every time i try to draw them something, i end up making humorous sketches of outlandish costumes that nobody - not even i - would buy.

so i hope i can have enough self discipline soon to stay serious for as long as it takes me to come up with some extravagant, cool, beautiful - and sellable - clothes! wish me luck!!

oh, and please come with suggestions; what sort of stuff do you think i should include in the designs?

check out my other blog post on dracula clothing
and, of course the shop itself.. www.draculaclothing.com

teeth

i don't really know what this blog post is about, except it revolves around a photo i snapped of an ad for an art show in an old magazine.

i've tried to look up what the art show was about, but it doesn't seem as interesting to me as the ad. i just like teeth and bones and all sorts that has to do with the body. i like how this weird sculpture combines manky human remains with silvery jewellryness - like a type of unwearable occult piece of jewellry. i wish i had loads of teeth to make scary jewellery of! (oh wait, I DO, i just have to get them out somehow.. )

ich bin ein berliner!!

ach helga!! ho ho. berlin is great!! i'm enjoying some of the cheap, tasty beer as i write this blog entry.

the best thing i've seen so far in berlin, has been a house in no man's land. no man's land was a part of the city that was not occupied by either east or west. soo nobody really owned it or had any control over it.

aahh a freak's heaven! so. a freak with creative, alternative thoughts in his head built a house on a part of no man's land while the city was still divided. when the wall came down, nobody could do anything about it.

i've seen this house, and it was amazing. it was something like what my younger brother and i would build when we were younger and into the tree house business. total anarchy! and the best part was that it was totally surrounded by streets and proper houses. it was not hidden away in the back yard of anything, it was in the middle of a street.

i didn't get any pictures of the house when i was there, and i couldn't find much about it on the net, so here is the *only* picture of the place that i could find:

i can't believe this is the only picture i could find? if everyone was like me, this place was a major tourist attraction. i'm glad not everyone is like me, though, as then, maybe it would not be a major tourist attraction at all - maybe this would be what a normal house would look like..

i'll go back to the anarchy-house and get some pictures for you all at some point.
for now: i'm glad to be at HOME in berlin, - in a home with an internet connection - so i can keep up my blog - it's becoming an addictive habbit :s

berlin installation 65 % completed

i'll be away from blog-land for a while, as i'm moving to berlin. my boyfriend and all my creative playthings are already there, waiting for me to finish everything i have to do here in norway before i can fuck off to the land of cheap beer and uhh.. other german stuff, to join them. needless to say, i'm very busy doing the things i have to do, as i'm itching to have fun with my boyfriend, my creative playthings and the cheap beer.

i'll be back in blog-land as soon as i'm successfully installed(geek-speak!!) in berlin. till then, look at these amaaaazing photos by eugenio recuenco!!

treeeee houseee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i love tree houses. when i was little, me and my brother spent most of the summers far up in the trees, building mad constructions. i constantly walked around with my pockets full of nails and my head full of grand building plans. i wish i never grew up.. oh wait, - i didn't!!!

i don't really get fashion photography. not that i don't get these photos; they're beautiful, i just don't see why they're "fashion photography". it's not that i'm not interested in clothes either. i love weird clothes - but i don't see how the clothes is the most important thing in these photos? or maybe i've got it all wrong, and fashion photography isn't about clothes at all?? then why call it fashion photography?? i think i'm allergic to the phrase "fashion photography". it's such a shame, as i often love the actual photos. oops, couldn't resist ranting. i can't wait to be back to rant some more!!
